How to translate FCP text "effects" into Dreamweaver XML??
on Dec 17, 2011 at 8:12:03 pm

Hi,

I am creating a small XML file in Dreamweaver from FCP subs that will be included for a scene subtitles burn-in for a DCP. It's only like 15 lines, pretty easy and quick, but I am relatively inexperienced at XMLs generally.

I have have able to create the attached XML that works just fine when I tested it, but one thing I do NOT know how to do is how to make sure the font displayed (Arial) is displayed as "bold" and also how to capture the effect of "line softness" and "line width" behind the text.

The post super gave me the following specs regarding this:

Line Color: Black
Line Width: 50
Line Softness: 100

This specs in addition to making sure the displayed font is "bold" is what I was wondering if someone could tell me exactly how and where to write this into the XML so that everything works as they want it? Somewhere in the header specs?

I have attached the file for view/reference. I am supposed to have this done for tomorrow if someone could help me right away that would be great!

Thanks!
Tim

I too am not an expert in XML and I am not sure about Dreamweaver XML specifically however
whenever I have made DCP subtitle files from FCP I have used this bit of software.
It can pretty much convert any format to any format.

The temp version allows for 50 lines to be converted so you should be fine with that.

You can also check the files you make in text wrangler - you can see in the header the font used, font size and if they instruction for bold is "true" etc etc

Hope it helps you

Hi Neil -

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give it a try but would rather just add the 2/3 small modifications to the existing XML file I posted if at all possible because I have already tested it and know it works exactly how it should - I just need to add the bold, line width/softness effects...

If anyone can advise me how/where to write these commands into my existing XML that would be great!

If you look at your XML file in Text Wrangler you can see the font info in the header - it says you are using Arial in your file. You can edit this to be Arial Bold.

In terms of line colour line width and line softness I have not seen these as options in the subtitles that I usually create however the Title Exchange programme does allow quite a bit of customisation of titles depending on the XML format so those options may be available there.
I usually just use it to get from FCP to DLP

Hi Neil,

Ok, yeah I wrote the XML to include "Arial", so you're saying to ensure it is "bold" I would simply write "Arial Bold" instead of "Arial"?

Sorry to be so simple, but I have never written an XML to ensure a font is "bold"...

Thanks!
