it's my first time so be gentle: 7D footage -> fcp7

a buddy of mine shot 4 interviews with me using a 7D and fostex fr2 recorder.

my buddy took the footage and synch it up using plural eyes.

he gave me the synch footage, the "original" footage off the 7D and all the audio files.

i opened the synch footage in fcp7 and played the footage.

all was right at the beginning but the footage soon lost synch.

i checked under fcp7 item properties and the synched footage is labelled h264.

should my buddy have transcoded the 7D footage to prores before he pluralized the footage?

i do not want to re-synch all the "original" footage with the audio files.

how can i take the synched footage and transcode it to prores?

please be very specific about how i should get to transcode the footage.

please assume i know nothing because i know nothing.

did i mention this is my first time with 7D footage, so be gentle.

thanks in advance for any and all thoughts you care to share.

be well

[Rob Katz] "should my buddy have transcoded the 7D footage to prores before he pluralized the footage?"

Yes.

[Rob Katz] "how can i take the synched footage and transcode it to prores?"

Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial and then take the H.264's offline, and reconnect to the ProRes files (KEEP THE SAME NAMES!)

Or...use the Media Manager and the RECOMPRESS option.

[Rob Katz] "please be very specific about how i should get to transcode the footage."

See the tutorial for Log and Transfer. And for the Media Manager...it's all in the manual, step by step:

If it's a long interview, it may have a tendency to drift as it goes down the timeline. I haven't used Plural Eyes, but I've heard it's not always locking in the footage correctly.

I use log and transfer to encode my footage and synch on the timeline.
