Remove audio tracks from quicktime
on Dec 5, 2011 at 2:39:41 pm

I remember seeing a freeware app that would strip extraneous audio tracks from quicktime files. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks,
Dan

QT Change is what you're looking for - demo version is free for 8 clips at a time...

This is exactly what I need, but the demo doesn't seem to work for me. Every file is greyed out, I can't select it or drag-and-drop. Do you use it? Any ideas? I've sent and e-mail to the developer for help.

Open QTChange
Click "Select source folder" (folder where your QTs live)
Choose tracks to delete (A1, A2, etc.)
Click "Do it"
done.

Please be aware there is NO undo to this process, so make duplicates of your source footage prior to this process if you think you might want to go back at some point.

very important note. You HAVE to "save as" to modify the file. If you simply do a save...it removes the link to the deleted tracks, but the file size remains the same.

I know QT pro can do it, but I need a "batch" option because I have lot's of files to alter.

I Found my error-
When batch exporting QTs form FCP, I neglected to give them extensions. QtChange cannot load the file without the .mov, even though quicktime can load and play the file. Lesson learned.

FYI I plan to batch add the extensions with "A Better Finder Rename", then remove the extraneous tracks with QTChange. This should be a big enough slap in the face to force me to be more careful with my settings!
