Chroma/white background Image Mask

I'm sure this has an easy solution, but after hours of googling, I'm stumped.

I'm using FCP X and I have a subject on white. I've color masked to get the background super white (i.e. pulled up highlights). Now I have some images that I would like to appear behind the subject. So in effect it is like green screen... but this is a white background and I would rather not have to key out the subject from the white.

I thought there was an easy way to use an image mask for the image I want to use: I thought I could place V2 (image) over V1 (subject/background), and then use some sort of traveling/chroma/luma mask so that the image only displayed over the white channel.

Is this not doable? It's killing me that this is so hard... any help would be much appreciated. You guys are all great by the way!

Try the "Luma Key", "Difference Matte", "Extract" or the "Image Mask".
