ProRes RT Unlimited Frame sizes for Multiclip editing
on Nov 10, 2011 at 10:45:28 pm

Hi I am trying to reduce the size of my HD 1920x1080p clips to manage 5 multiclip music video files for editing and cannot seem to get RT Unlimited with anything but the options you have in Compressor. Ideally Pro Res 853x480p(square pixel Custom 16:9) would suite me but the RT unlimited does not appear in timeline?

I have read through a lot of the site but cannot seem to work out other options like proxy sequences?

Would appreciate some help...... been a few days now!

FCP likes standard frame sizes so anything other than 1920 x 1080, 1280 x 720 or 720 x 480 will have poor RT performance. Ideally you want to stay with the same pixel aspect but try ProRes proxy at 1280 x 720 to see if that gives you good performance.

Hard drive speed matters as well. Do you have an esata RAID or something with the required bandwidth. If not then you might have to drop to 720 x 480 for RT.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes I have tried the 1280x720 but still not running smoothly and the 720x480 is not 16:9 format.

where can I download ProRes 422 Proxy for Compressor 3.05 as this might do the trick for 1280x720? Tried Apple support and it does not seem to be there?

Thanks.

ProRes Proxy comes with FCP 7. 720 x 480 anamorphic is 16:9. SD codecs use anamorphic squeeze for 16:9 and FCP understands and displays this correctly.

Thanks - yes I have tried this and it works great BUT it is displaying in my canvas and viewer in 3:4 format. Do I just ignore this and edit then export to correct 16:9 format?

In sequence settings, tick the anamorphic box and the viewer & canvas will now display correctly
