Font face blocky in FCP 7 DV sequence
on Nov 3, 2011 at 5:56:58 pm

My fonts are breaking up (blocky) even in default size (36) in my DV timeline. There doesn't appear to be any option to render. Is there a kind soul out there can tell me what I am doing wrong?

Make sure you text is on an even number for the y position for one.
Second, DV CODEC SUCKS!!!!!

When the edit is done.
Change your sequence compressor/codec to 8 bit uncompressed and fully render all.
Much cleaner.

Sorry Chris, which is the "Y" position? Is it in the text viewer control pane? I'm using the FCP default text utility. Maybe I should build titles in Motion then import as .mov files?

Looks like I must be on the wrong forum here - I set text motion to even number on the Y position and the font face is still aliasing. I shall try building my titles in Motion, I think I still have a version of LiveType somewhere... looking forward to wasting some time on this one.

The DV codec is horrible on Text.
Change the codec - render - view on Broadcast monitor.

Thanks Chris. I agree the text on DV codec looks horrible on FCP. I don't remember it looking so bad on my previous system, although with that one I used a CRT to monitor.

What do you mean when you suggest use another codec? Maybe to make the titles in a 1080i codec, then make QT movies and import into my DV sequence? Sorry, I have little experience working with DV in FCP, nor do I have a broadcast monitor at my disposal.

NO you don't want 1080i.

In the sequence settings. After the edit is done.
Change the Compressor to 10 bit UC

OK, great Chris, thanks for your time. I realise I'm seeing it worse on my MBP screen than it will look to most once I follow your steps. Hope I don't have to waste more of your kind time. Cheers.
