Cameraman credit
on Oct 5, 2011 at 9:05:17 pm

Hi,

I'm finishing a documentary for PBS, we had a few cameramen over the months of shooting, but one primary cameraman that did most of the work.

It was primarily interviews, but also some really nice B-Roll stuff.

The question is, what's the right title?

Options:
Cinematography by:
Videography by:
Principle Camera by:

What's the protocol for TV documentary work?

Thanks a lot,

Wayne

There's no one size fits all Wayne that works in every case.

Often the lead credit might be "Director of Photography" or "Cinematographer." Some people think a "cinematographer" credit should be reserved for projects shot on film, but there are few real films shot on film anymore anyway.

Typically the additional camera people get "Additional Cinematography" or
"Additional Photography" credits.

A "videography" credit is typically reserved for shooters who do things like Bar Mitvahs and weddings. And, I mean that with all due respect to those of you in that specialty.
