720x480 NTSC vs. 720x480 Square?
on Sep 20, 2011 at 10:26:00 pm

Question, when would you ever have 720x480 in Square pixels? I have someone requesting this and sent me settings for Compressor. I've never heard of this. I thought if the output was to be square pixels, it would be 640x480. 720x480 in only NTSC CCIR601/DV correct!

Well, you CAN have 720x480 in square pixels, but I don't why: the video would look goofy. You can send back what the client requests, but I think I'd ask some clarifying questions about how this is intended to be used, and what they hope to gain with square pixels.

The answer to that one is "nothing", in my book.

Thought so. Even with 720x480 NTSC, QT 7 will display it as square pixels (655x480) unless you change the Presentation to Encoded Pixels under the Movie Properties menu. So the whole 720x480 square just seems wrong. Thx
