Can't get rid of timecode for export from FCP
on Sep 16, 2011 at 9:23:56 am

Guys, sorry for being such a noob, but I know very little about timecodes.
I'm editing an actor's reel, and one of their source clips has timecode on it. Timecode is visible when I preview it in the finder (Mac Snow Leopard) and open it in quicktime, but the timecode is NOT visible in the browser or canvas of final cut pro 6.
The sequence is SD NTSC.
The timecode must be in a separate track then, right?
Every combination of settings i've tried on the export... the timecode reappears in the exported file. Driving me crazy. I've tried exporting quicktime movie, export with quicktime conversion, various codecs... i just don't get it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Timecode can be displayed in a text track in QuickTime Player, but FCP does not support it, so it won't show in FCP.

If you need to get rid of it, you can open in QuickTime player, then in the properties, delete the text track.

Oh joy, QTchange is able to create this kind of timecode.
And i never knew it would stick on an export!

Sorry for the OP that it caused trouble, but nice to make offline viewing copies, so you discovered an undocumented feature!

Btw, QTchange is also able to remove the text track, and if it is just a few clips, the free demo will do just fine.

Download it from here:

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean Quicktime Pro? Because for the life of me I couldn't find Properties, and how to delete the track, from Quicktime Player 10.0.
I found the Inspector... but nothing about tracks or timecode....

QuickTime 10 is next to useless. Use QuickTime Pro (QuickTime Player 7)...or better yet...Bouke's tool.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I tried QT change. I ended up checking delete on every track except video, and managed to successfully remove the audio (as a test more than anything) but the TC is still there!
I definitely checked these boxes for deleting too:
Normal TC
Aux TC 1
Aux TC 2
Text

But the TC is still there.
I think i might just leave it for this clip, unless I'm missing something.
Thanks.

Select Sequence, from the menus select Modify-->Timecode, then deselect all timecodes
