sync problemswith video at 25p with separate audio aiff
on Sep 13, 2011 at 8:58:12 pm

Hello,
I am having problems syncronize material from canon 7D done at 25p with the separate audio ( handy recorder)
I have transformed all the material to appleprores 25p 1920x1080 befor starting to edit.
I sync in the beginning of the clip with aiff and after 1 minute the sound has gone out of sync
Do i have to transform my video to 29,97? ( my output will be appleprores 25p 1920x1080)
Did a do something wrong with the bit rate?

Thank you for helping!!!

[mar sequeira] "Did a do something wrong with the bit rate?"

Why don't you tell us the bit rate of the second-system audio so we can tell you yes or no?
Did you convert the audio to AIFF files at 48kHz and either 26 or 24 bits before importing it into FCP?

The original audio was a wav file, 48khz, 24bits, but I have converted it into aiff 48khz and 24bits.
The audio captured by the camera is 16 bits, is that a problem?

thanks

Bitrate, bitdepth, sample rate are all not important.
What is important is how you set up FCP.
Normally with 25 FPS there are no problems, but if you have switched a couple of times you could have messed something up.
Not your fault, FCP sucks in that department.

Quit FCP, start a new project with an easy setup and try again.
Do rename files you already tried, as FCP 'remembers' the file and will apply the same mistake. Nice eh?

Another option is to transcode the files to QT (sound only MOV)
No quality loss, but less chances for this kind of madness.

Last but not least, why on earth did you convert from Wave to AIFF?
The content is exactly the same, and FCP likes WAVE as good/bad as AIFF.

Matt Lyons tutorial explains why this happens all the time in FCP and how to import audio assets (second part of tutorial).

As Bouke says, no reason to not work with the wav files, once you have the frame rate of your default project matching the frame rate of the project you are working in, just import the wavs and they should sync perfectly
