Smooth horisontal moves
on Sep 10, 2011 at 10:56:31 pm

Hi!

On the Web I have seen lots of pans that not go smoothly. Now I am in the same position, in FCP, I try to get my pans, horizontal moves nice, but they stagger a lot. Mostly it is related to Motion generated items and text graphics.
Does anyone recognize this and know how to fix it?

You're experiencing a phenomenon called judder. You have to alter the speed of horizontal movement to avoid it.

I understand that for decades, cinematographers have compiled proprietary charts of horizontal movement and frame rate to get the proper motion. Judder is nothing new.
