Solved: Edit to Tape Audio Issues with Final Cut Pro 7
on Aug 31, 2011 at 6:35:30 am

If you're reading this, chances are, you are in a hurry to find the answer to this problem, so I'll make a long story short...

Problem: When performing an Edit To Tape in Final Cut Pro 7, I discovered that I could not record a stereo audio track to tape during an Insert Edit. Since I knew that my sequence settings and hardware connections were correct, I was baffled. This happened with both the Aja IO HD and Matrox MXO2 when transferring to a UVW 1800 Beta SP machine. After reading a few forums, I noticed that this happened on other IOs involving Final Cut Pro. Thanks to the friendly, helpful people at Aja, I learned the following fix.

Solution:
1. Open the Audio/Video Settings under the Final Cut Pro menu
2. Click on the device control preset tab
3. Find the setup you are using and click the edit button
4. If your audio mapping is set to 8 (FCP's default setting), then you are probably not getting audio
5. Set Audio Mapping to 2

This should solve your problem if you have a similar setup.

If this was helpful to you, please let me know. I like to make a difference. :)

I'm having the problem where I cannot see meter activity on my Beta SP from my AJA Io HD during Preview in Edit to Tapeā€¦ but I do see it during Assemble.

I have the latest updates/firmware for the OS & AJA. The Beta and the AJA loop through each other on 1 & 2 and are not routed through a board except for playback. Since I get audio on the Assemble, I'm certain it's not a cabling issue.

I tried changing the audio device output channels as described above but I only see 8 channels as an option. I've also verified the Audio follows Video option is enabled as suggested in another post. I appreciate any advice. Thanks!

The audio setting has to be switched to get it to work.
However, based on my previous experience with BetaSP machines and Final Cut Pro, I would try switching the audio mapping to the even number of audio output tracks that you have in your timeline.
So if you are using 3-4 audio outputs, switch the setting to 4.
Let me know if it works.

Ok, figured it out. You have to change the number of audio inputs under the device control preset, not under A/V Devices.
