Problem - Quailty of video clip degraded by FCP
on Aug 23, 2011 at 8:00:34 am

Hi All,

I need some help with FCP, I am getting married in 2 weeks and am in the process of making a video to play at the wedding.

I have footage's from two different cameras.
One is a Canon XH-A1, its footage is in 1920x1080.
The Other camera is a Sony handycam DCR-DVD650, its footage is 720x480 (29frams per/sec , 9100kbps)

The 1920*1080 clips are all fine.

The problem is that when I open the 720x480 clips with FCP they are very smudgy whenever there is movement (all straight lines seem wobbly).

On the other hand, when I open these clips outside of FCP, with quicktime for example, their quality is great and not smudgy at all.

Please Help ;)

Any time you compare SD to HD, you're going to see big differences in image quality.
HD gives you 5 times as many pixels to get the picture looking good.

so IS the answer to my problem, to just change the settings of the sequence to SD ?

when I play the 720*480 with quicktime it look fine... without smadges.

Work in SD -- 720x480. You'l probably have to do more rendering than you ever thought.
