Losing quality importing? FCP 7.0.3

I am trying to edit a software tutorial, but everytime I import the .mov file it seems to lose quality. I thought it was due to rendering, but even when I did and decided to export the video I still have quality loss.

Without posting your settings and specs - we can't help you.

What is the format and codec of the mov file.

What are your sequence settings?

Apologies,

QTF file and I used an H.264 codec.

I have the Aspect ratio at NTSC - CCIR601, compression on DV/DVCPRO - NTSC and normal Motion Filtering Quality.

Convert the (original if you have it) clip to a codec that FCP likes.
Like Prores.

Is the file 720x480? SD?

You could use DV50 as well but never use h.264 for editing.

Ahh, that works like a dream importing. However, my sequence is still a bit more pixlated even changing the compressor to prores as well. My settings are the same as before other than that.

Always the most obvious thing. Turns out the scale was nowhere near its original size (45!). I'm using the computer of my new employer and apparently my predecessor had some odd preferences. Thanks Chris.
