Two NLEs on one computer
on Jul 15, 2011 at 12:06:18 am

I have a MacPro tower and wonder if anyone in this forum has both Final Cut Pro 7 and Avid Media Composer installed in a machine like mine. Are there any hardware or software conflicts or problems?

Both NLEs will have their corresponding version of Boris Continuum.

I might need to teach both systems at a local university.

Thanks for the info.

Bert

I have THREE NLE's installed on mine. FCP 7.0.3...Avid MC 5.5...and Adobe Premiere CS 5.5. And the Matrox MXO2 Mini that works with all three. Nvidia graphics card works with all three too.

Gotta be careful with Avid MC...make sure that you are on their specific required OS and QT versions. FCP doesn't seem to care that much.

A bullet proof way is to have two system drives which you ALT boot. One drive is FCS3 optimised - OS version, device drivers, plugins & quicktime etc.

The other is a ground up OS and software install for AVID.

Or, as Michael already knows, you could simply watch my tutorial and find out how to very elegantly and very efficiently partition a single hard drive with multiple bootable partitions, thus saving the other drive bays for alternate purposes.

Sorry David. Never been a fan of partitioning drives.
