Clips and Sequences keep changing names
on Jun 20, 2011 at 7:32:29 pm

Hi, Last night I upgraded to FCP 7. It is working fine except....

When I do an edit... lets say I insert a video clip. When I do that the name of the sequence changes to the name of that clip and all of the clips in the timeline become that name as well.

Really wierd.

Can anyone ehlp me out?

Thank you.

Doug

How did you go about doing the upgrade? Shortly after FCP 7 first appeared, people worked out a bulletproof way to do it, which involved a lot more than simply installing the new software.

I know this sounds weird.... I followed the instructions that came with the software. I was not aware of any work arounds and now I am stuck with this thing renaming everything the same name.

Disapointing to say the least as I am in the middle of a project due Friday.

What is this bullet proof procedure?

David Roth Weiss, the primary advocate of this procedure, has posted it quite a few times. I've never had to do it myself -- I'm not allowed to upgrade software -- but I believe it goes like this:
  • Make a clone of the current system drive on an external hard drive using Carbon Copy Cloner(?).
  • Completely erase the internal system drive.
  • Reinstall the OS-- with the exception of Quicktime X -- and keep running the updates until there aren't any more to do.
  • Install the Application software -- with the exception of Quicktime X -- and keep running the updates until there aren't any more to do.

That's how I recall it. I may have gotten certain details wrong. For example, where's Quicktime located: on the OS installation disks or the Application installation disks?

That is pretty brutal. A clean install could take an entire day.

Is there a upgrade for ver 7? Like a ver 7.1?

Id so does that fix it?
