CF card Log and Transfer error

Please advise, much appreciated.

Recently, during Log and Transfer of HD footage from my cf cards, Final Cut aborts the log/transfer and tells me my card reader has been ejected, and I should eject properly, etc. This wasn't happening before under exact same specs...

My specs: Gmonster 533x 32gb cf cards shot on Sony Z7U camera, Ativa AT-52N13 card reader, Macbook Pro w FCP 7, plenty of space on the scratch disk...

Sometimes FCP won't even recognize the card when I start log/transfer, sometimes I can log/transfer for 10 minutes before it ejects the card reader...I'm having to re-open log/transfer up to 10 times just to try and complete a transfer of a 10 minute video file

Might I have a faulty card reader? Is there another easy way to transfer the video files to my computer?

Thanks, Alex K. 5/27/11

You should always backup from the card reader to a hard drive which becomes your master when the card is reformatted. From that backup, you should Log & Transfer.

Shane Ross's excellent tutorial on tapeless workflows will explain why in more detail.
