Double strike short cut key
on May 3, 2011 at 5:42:07 am

Hi there,

I keep my FCP keyboard layout as similar to my Avid one as possible. Which means for things like slip, roll, select, I use a modifier such as option, but that's a pain and slow. I'd like to remap these double key strikes, like: ss=slip rr=roll, aa=select, etc., but I can't work out how to do it.

I tried selecting "slip tool" then hitting "s" twice but it was all like "key combination is already assigned (to what only "s" is assigned to"

Any ideas?

It looks like right clicking on (for example) the slide tool (usually assigned to 'ss') brings up a dialogue saying this key combination is locked and cannot be deleted. I'm guessing from this you cannot alter the double/triple/quadruple key modifiers already set (as per the toolbar) - but then they only exist on a few key tools. As such, I don't believe they are something you can do on ANY key. Why not just find an unused key (there are plenty I never use) and put it there, so it's a single key selection?

Cheers mate. All my letter keys are assigned, however I just noticed I haven't used my number keys for anything. Might try them.
