up converting in timeline
on Apr 16, 2011 at 8:54:37 am

hi. I am editing a project in Final Cut pro that mixes upgraded HD 1080i50 files (1080i to full HD1920 via Pro res422 HQ) with After Effects files. Each digital Quicktime file is high in gegabites and MacBook pro 6.6 (4geg ram) is unable to play the files smoothly from the timeline. My question is: if I down convert all the files to low res quicktimes and edit with these in the timeline, is there a way that I can use the same timeline information and up convert back to full HD for rendering to a FCPro movie file? Any experience with this query would be much appreciated.

Yes... you would use the Media Manager... Look at the FCP manual on how to use.

As long as these are straight cuts that you are talking about firstly make sure that the low res proxy files are of the exact same duration Secondly, they have the exact same naming scheme as the original files & lastly, when you are done making the cuts RMB on the sequence & ReConnect Media. This should allow you to re-choose the original footage instead of the ow res footage that you shall be working with.
