on Apr 8, 2011 at 10:46:30 am

Hi since is my first post here now is the time to thanks the big help that you have been to me during the last year, and also apologize if my poor english gets confusing.

ok, here is my question, having material recorded and captured as follows, what kind of workflow should i follow in order to preserve biggest quality?

1.- Panasonic P-2 dvcpro hd 1080 p25
pixel aspect hd 1440x1080
progressive 25 fsp 14mb/s
(in this particular case I also keep the content folder)

2.- Go pro material MPG4
square pixel 1920x1080
UPPER field dominance (in fcp I couldn´t see the micetheeth but,..)
h.264
1.8 MB/s

3.- Sony Z1 hdv 1080i50
pixel and frame 1440x1080
upper F.D
3.2 MB/s

DVCPRO HD 1080 would be the highest quality here. But it's progressive and the other two are interlaced.

The gopro mpeg stuff needs to be transcoded for editing anyway.

HDV is not great for editing.

Which format do you have the most of?

First of all, thanks for tris rapid answer!

Well, the most material is hdv Sony one, and the go pro material is going to look as security camera in final image so cuality in this case is not that important as time Saving issue.
For more data, I have a core 2 4g RAM imac so i really need your advice on final secuence setting to not waste time. I know that looks all problems but i'll trully apreciate any advice.
Thanks

Well,
Can you convert The Go Pro and the HDV to ProRes? Leave it Interlaced.

If you convert all to one format first b/4 editing you will have a much easier go of it all and it will save time in the edit.

Leave the DVCPRO Progressive as is and drop into the Interlaced Prores sequence with the other footage.

Thanks, Chris
That´s pretty much what i was guessing, my biggest concern was about if the progressive material will crash on an interlaced secuence,...

So far i get, you suggest the following

1440x1080 frame size
apple pro res 442 upper codec
ok
So when I convert mpeg material from go pros to pro-res I should change de pixel aspect from square
to 1440x1080?
also had to change de frame size then?

I´ll use mpeg streamclip to do it, any better solutions?

You are helping me a lot so, please don´t stop now ;)

I'm not 100% sure on that one. You can, it probably will be fine.

If not, you can drop a 1920 HD clip in a 1440 sequence. (same thing really)
Try re-sizing 1 clip first and see how it plays/looks.
