Final Cut Library>Receipts Folder?
on Apr 7, 2011 at 3:52:27 am

So i just did a complete fresh install of OSX 10.6 and fresh install of Final Cut Studio 2.

I opted to store all the "Additional Content" on my new external G-RAID drive and I made a specific folder called "Final Cut Pro" for the installer to store it all in, just to keep things clean and organized.

After the install was completed, I noticed Final Cut Studio had installed another folder on my external drive outside of this specified "Final Cut Pro" folder i told it to install the stuff in called "Library" and inside it is a folder called "Receipts" with a bunch of random files...

Anyone know what this is? Is it necessary? If its moved will it mess things up?

I attached a picture to show what it looked like right after the install was complete.

[Shane McGee] ""Receipts" with a bunch of random files..."
Please post an snap shoot of those "Receipts".
I've never saw this.
The "Receipts" are files that keeps track of the software when installed.
Normally the "Receipts" folder is in your drive /library/Receipts.

yeah, i knew there was a reciepts folder installed on the system drive with the actual applications, i just didnt know there was another one installed on the external drive with the extra content.

So basically, dont touch it or movie it or it will screw stuff up?

I've never saw that on an external HD.
I haven't installed the FCS contents lately.

What's inside the folder?

That folder holds the installation receipts for the content you installed on that drive. The receipts for the main FCS apps went to your system's Library. I find that kind of screwy, as Apple should've expected people to install the Additional Content in a location other than their system drive. There isn't much you can do about it. Moving receipts is a bad idea, as they are what the system looks at to determine which versions of which software are installed and for permission repairs in Disk Utility.

You'll have to learn to live with that Library folder in the middle of your nice organized HDD structure.

Thanks for the helpful response Jean.

Pretty weird how it installs it like that, but i can live with the single strangely placed folder. I'm just a sticker for having everything organized because i can get confused/overwhelmed/lost very quickly when things are out of place and what not.

I wonder if its still placed there in Final Cut Studio 3? I'm using FCS2...
