Can FCP split BPAV .MP4 files from Sony PMW-EX3?
on Mar 7, 2011 at 10:45:42 am

Hello,

We have recently upgraded to 2 Sony PMW-EX3's and are still learning how to use properly.

We have a situation where we did not stop a video shoot at a proper point and now have 2 sequences that run continuously over one video file. Somehow we need to split the separate video shoots into 2 separate video files.

Let me also clarify, we have 1 BPAV folder that has 2 separate shoots. We need to somehow convert or cut/split this one BPAV into 2 separate BPAV's. Is this possible in FCP, or maybe even with any Sony utility software?

Pls help is anyone knows...

Robert

Hi Robert,
With the SONY Clip Browser you can build a new BPAV with MP4 from other BPAV.
Open a new folder and "Import..".

Hmmm... No that is not it. That is what you would need to do if an .MP4 file somehow got orphaned from it's parent BPAV folder. Importing an .MP4 like this creates a new BPAV folder for it so that it is correctly recognized by the clip browser software.

I am saying that we have one BPAV folder (no problem with it structurally) which contains two different shoots. I need for those two shoots within that one BPAV folder (which also only contains one .MP4 file) to become two separate BPAV folders.

This would be like if you had a single .MOV file and wanted to make it into two separate .MOV files, you would simply load into FCP and cut it at the desired point and save the two clips as separate .MOV files.

Anyone???

Should this be in a different forum?

If somebody was able to develop something like that, probably would be for sell.
Ask Craig Seaman on the SONY XDCAM forum.
