Jagged PSD's in fcp
on Feb 15, 2011 at 11:34:01 pm

All I need to do is insert a simple graphic (a circle with a line through it) anti smoking kinda graphic into an edit. I have done everything to make it not look jagged.

I am editing in an fcp 7, pro res 1920x1080 sequence. I can't for the life of me figure this out. Any help would be very appreciated.

Everything in photoshop that I bring into this sequence gets jagged!

What size if your PSD?
Have you tried saving it as a PNG? or Targa?

It is 1920x1080. I have tried targe, tiff, and png all to no avail.

Are you animating or scaling the file? That will make a difference.
Try flattening your file in PS and then saving as a tiff.

Is your FCP Canvas at 100%?
You can only judge this at 100%

Here is a link to what I am trying to make. There is no movement, the background is a still, the text was made in FCP using the simple text tool and the red anti graphic was made in photoshop at 1920x1080. I brought the PSD into the sequence and put it where I needed it. The edges of the red circle look really wonky to me....

With RED like that and being a circle/arc, I think that is the best you're going to get.

Change your compressor in Sequence settings to Animation codec.
Looks supersharp here compared to ProRes.

But then you will have to stay in Animation codec on output.

What is your delivery format?

Delivery format is YouTube. I changed my settings and it looks great with the animation codec.
