Coloring correcting two camera's exposure's difference...?
on Jan 19, 2011 at 11:50:35 pm

I shot a segment with a 2nd camera man. We both had T2i's. Used the 18 - 55 stock lens. white balanced on the same card. Same ISO (1600). And double checked cameras settings and everything looked the exact same.

The images I got back where completely different.

I was at shooting on mostly 55mm / 5.6 and he was opened at a closer to the 18mm end which opens more to 4 the whole time. But still I feel like some shots are similar focal lengths but still different images. also the wider camera is so much sharper. Is this a lens or camera defect? Or is that lens just a lot sharper when open more. anyone know whats goin on or how to correct it? Here are some screen shots of the original footage.

This is my attempt to correct the footage:

Any other pointers or tips to get this footage looking the same-ish. Thanks.

Same ISO...but apparently not the same F-stop.

I figured it was a f-stop difference. Although I couldn't believe how much more sharper and contrasty the overexposed camera was.

any ideas for fixing this in FCP?

Color correction is something that is very tough to tell someone how do to via a forum. You have to adjust the exposure...well, the lows and mids and highlights until you find the happy medium. I'd tackle this in Color, as I can push things more, and have more fine tuning control. FCP's 3 way, and brightness and Contrast filters are iffy.

Just gotta play with it, or hire a colorist.
