2 clips which timeline?
on Dec 19, 2010 at 6:53:48 pm

Hi,

I recently shot some footage on a z1 at hdv, i captured the footage at apple pro res 422 through firewire.

The problem is that i've also got some older footage as DVPal anamorphic.

so i've got 2 sets of clips:
apple pro res - upper field and
dv pal - lower field.

My project is for the web so i guess it needs to be square pixel and 'no fields'

Now which timeline should i create?..apple pro res 422, with no fields and square pixel?

or a dv pal anamorphic timelime, no fields and square pixel?

Or just create a normal apple pro res timeline, upper field and just not worry about it?
best
Nick

I shot on Canon 5d and am having trouble with sound, I can see the levels but cant hear anything, The same thing is happening with some PAL clips I shot on the Canon HDV VIXIA camera...never had this trouble before, and I have tried different timeline set-ups. Any ideas?

Hi Nick,
Web videos are always Progressive and Squared pixels, so start like that.

Sorry I've clicked too fast.
I would try with a Prores 1024x576 or 720x404 p25 Squared pixels sequence.
Drop all your footage there, apply the De-interlacers (avoid the one on FC), set "Render in High Precision" and "Render Motion Effects: BEST".

Hi,

Fantastic Rafael - a 1024x576 apple pro res square pixel timeline sounds fine to me.

Should the compressor be apple pro res?...is that the best?..
i tried animation codec but the file is way too large.

[nick welch] "Should the compressor be apple pro res?...is that the best?.."
Yes, Prores is the best option and being part of your footage Prores, makes even more sense.
Animation is a poor solution. Is RGB (and only 8b). Web video codecs are YUV.

Many thanks Rafael.

Hey look the only other question i have is about effects.

there's a colour effect used in this video at 4m.05secs.

can you tell me what effect this is?..it's like a colour burn/flicker effect..
any ideas?
many thanks once again.
best
