Howdy, and thank you for your time.

The program was shot in 1080i using a Sony EX3.
Sequence settings are XDCAM EX 1080i60 (35mb/s vbr)

The station this program will be broadcasting on can only accept a 720p MPEG 2 Program Stream file, if maintaining HD.

I can not find a setting in Compressor that will do this. The only MPEG2 setting I see uses the current aspect ratio. Is there a way to convert this during the export, or does this sequence have to be dropped into a 720p sequence? The render time when dropping this 1080i sequence into a 720p sequence is horrendous. Whats the best ay to do this? Any ideas?

Thank you!

Bobby

You need TELESTREAM or EPISODE PRO to encode that kind of file. Nothing in FCP's apps can do it.

Thank you, Shane. Wow... looks like a $1000 to make this happen with that software. Regular Episode 6 ($495) says it does mpeg 2 as well, but neither of them address the mpeg 2 program file. I have flip for mac pro hd, and toast titanium. Neither of these have a setting somewhere that I have overlooked, right? Just want to address every possible option before shelling the bucks.

Again, thank you for your time.

Also wondering what you guys are experiencing with media distribution these days. Everyone in this market is using MPEG-2 Program... and from what I can tell by the little research I have done, MPEG-2 Program seems to be a Broadcast Standard nowadays. If this is the case, it seems that FCP would want to streamline this process for its users. The Chief at this particular station says AVID has an internal default MPEG-2 export setting that can down convert 1080i to 720p. If this is true, I feel like I am just missing something simple here. FCP wants me to pay $1000 bucks for an outside piece of software to convert media to a broadcast standard file?

I either deliver tape or ProRes or DNxHD files. Have yet to be required to do MPEG-2 Broadcast stream.

I swear I saw a post here just the other day displaying how compressor can do a program stream now. If the problem is also the size convert, do that separate, then compressor.
