Self contained movie does not open on non FCP-Comp
on Dec 14, 2010 at 6:37:08 am

Hello everyone

Well I have exported a self contained .mov from my FCP. The compressor used was HDV1080i50 as it is an HDV film.
The problem is that this mov opens on my quicktime player but does not open on my clients computer (who also has a latest quick time player). My client's comp does not have an FCP installed. If i m not wrong, he needs to install an additional codec for QTPlayer for this. from where can I install this codec for free?

Also what kind of .mov opens on every quick time player( irrespective of additional codecs installed or not) without compromising much on the quality of the film?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to transcode to another codec, HDV is proprietary. You can transcode to ProRes, it is readable on Windows machines with the latest QT installed.
