Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 to mpeg 2 (720x486)
on Dec 2, 2010 at 4:19:28 pm

One of are half hour tv shows was picked up by another distributor. We would usually just send them a beta tape with the episode, but they wanted the show as an mpeg2 file. Whenever I use compressor it always turns the frame size from 720x486 to 720x480. Is there any way to keep the original frame size with an mpeg2?

Thanks

Is that what they requested? You should make sure that they want a DVD compliant stream and not a program or transport stream with muxed audio.

[Jeremy Garchow] "You should make sure that they want a DVD compliant stream and not a program or transport stream with muxed audio."

And if they do want a transport stream, get the exact specs. If it has to be 4:2:2 MPEG-2 (which Compressor cannot produce), you'll need to use something like Telestream Episode. Others have run into this issue when trying to encode content to DG Fastchannel's specs.

Actually, you can these days believe it or not:

Still Chase, you need to check with the recipient as you have to figure out if there needs to blanking, and perhaps they want something like an IMX50 file.

However if you look at your screen-shot, it says
"YUV 4:2:2 Color encoding (not for DVD use)
So why use MPEG2?

Cheers

To make program or transport streams for broadcast. Not DVD.
