FCP share for Standard DVD Region Codes
on Nov 19, 2010 at 4:57:43 pm

I used the "share" function of FCP, to make a couple Standard DVD's. I have to send a few of the discs to Korea and I am wondering about the region codes. Will this disc play in standard dvd players in that country ?

According to wikipedia, Region 0 is playable worldwide but what setting does Share use by default ?

DONT use the share feature.

Use DVD Studio Pro. Export using current settings, then bring into compressor to encode the files for and make them ready for DVD Studio Pro. You will also have much more control over the quality this way.

In DVD Studio Pro you can choose what region to make your disk.

Keep in mind that for you to test the DVD you will need a DVD player with the same region you are making.

DVDSTP by default will make a DVD playable in all the regions.
You can restrict them.

Thanks for the input guys. I was wondering if anybody knew what region the 'share' utility with FC uses ?

I've never used the Share function.
If you don't see any option, it should be Region Free.

If you play the DVD in a computer, depending on the software, you should be able to display the disk's data including region coding. Players like VLC should display this info.

Never used Share. When the function first appeared, this forum was peppered with sad stories about trying to use this function. Most of us use the method Zane described.

VLC...that's perfect. I'll give that a try.

Personally I love the share feature for BluRay and Standard. The menu is simple and clean. I find it works if the film is under 60 minutes. The shorter the timeline, the more successful that feature is for me.
