showing markers on an exported clip

How can I show markers (specifically edit/cut markers) in an exported clip. I know they exist because they show up in compressor, however I cannot get them to show in fcp when I re-import the clip? any suggestions?

Markers only exist because they are inserted by the software for use in other Final Cut Suite applications. They are not part of the universally-readable metadata of a quicktime movie. Indeed, they aren't even readable by FCP if you simply export a quicktime movie in hopes that every bit of metadata, including markers, is contained in the file.

could I export and edl from my source project and have final cut read it to help mark the cut points?

In QT Player Pro go to the properties (cmd-j) and switch the text (chapter) track to visible. The marker names will be displayed above the video.

Well, that's cool! I didn't know QT Pro had that capability. I learned something new today.

You even can go further and export the text track as text, add your comments (without changing the timing) and re-import again. You may change the chapter after that as well.

Try CatDV. You can make markers in CatDV and be seen in FCP or viceversa.
