I am currently working on a project in which most of the footage was shot natively in slow motion, probably 60 fps, with 16mm film. I was wondering if there was some rule of thumb by which you could change the speed of the film in FCP and make the playback fairly smooth?
I have tried various speeds, but nothing seems to work. When it plays back now it is jumpy and doesn't necessarily flow very well. Thanks in advance!
Since we don't know the frame fate of the footage in question -- neither the frame rate at which it was shot, nor the frame rate of the footage in your FCP browser -- it's pretty tough to give a useful answer.
Please say you already removed the 3:2 pulldown from it if it was originally 29.97.
It sounds like you'd need to engage in a lot of experimentation to get it right.
