Transferring Self Contained .mov File - Shrinking, Pixelation
on Nov 11, 2010 at 1:13:51 pm

Hello, I'm new to Creative Cow (and not a full-time editor, nor industry professional!), as such, this may be a rather perfunctory question...

Using FCP7 I have a 45 minute piece that saves on my mac's desktop as an 11.5 gig self-contained .mov.

Quality-wise, it looks great on the monitor at 720x576. Simply dragging and dropping it on a Lacie 1TB, it reduces in size to 10.6 gigs. I'll be running it off a mini mac and through an HD projector. Moving the project to the mini mac it is still 10.6 gigs. After futzing with the projector for native pixel size, etc. and shrinking down the display on the mini mac on which the project is to be housed, the image is still quite pixelated.

Before I start trying other projectors, checking cables, etc., I was just wondering if the shrinkage in file size from (literally just) dragging and dropping a .mov is normal, or to blame as I've never heard of such a shrink arising.

Thanks in advance,

-Thomas

Hi Rafael,

It's predominantly a mix of z1e and ex1 footage with a bit of pd170 material as well.

But you have edited all that in a PAL sequence?
Did you exported HD?
To which codec has you exported your Master?
If you have exported PAL, will you screen HD?
