Frame size and pixel aspect issues FINAL CUT
on Oct 7, 2010 at 9:14:31 pm

Hi, I recorded AVCHD 16:9 1080p film footage, I transferred into final cut and wanted to mix with old super 8 films that are 4:3. I am getting an extremely stretched widescreen film image with black bars on top and bottom. The standard film is showing extremely small and stretched horizontally. I created a new sequence and thought I had the settings correct (HD1280 for both categories). What should the settings for frame size and pixel ration be for the sequence? Do I need to have a seperate sequence for the standard film? My main goal is to create a dvd where the hd footage fills up a widescreen television with no bars and the standard has bars on the right and left of it. I also tried to change the clips to anamorphic but I'm so lost now. Any assistance is appreciated! thank you

And how has been digitized the Super-8?
If You are going to a DVD, it doesn't make sense to upscale the footage to be downscaled later on.
First you need to decide is you want your final movie being 4x3 or 16x9.
