Live HDV to Final Cut/MacBookPro?

I am going to test this today. We have an HDR-FX7 HDV camera. Our client has MacBookPro. He wants to record via Firewire the live feed from our Camera into his MacBook while we shoot a bunch of standup testimonials. We will record on tape.

Is this possible?

You can try with the Record Video function in QT Pro.
I guess you can record native HDV.

Shouldn't be a problem. I used to do it all the time to record church sermons from our JVC GY-HD110U camera into a MBP for posting on Vimeo. I always recorded to tape at the same time just in case anything interrupted the live capture.

Which codec do you prefer for this type of operation. Does the HDV ProRes codec work? Camera only does 1080i 29.97 FPS.

HDV and Prores are actually two different codecs. I think I just used HDV and never had any problems.

If your system can handle the HDV-to-ProRes on the fly conversion I think that is the best. It helps with editing speed, Like you mentioned test this before you go live. If that doesn't work you just record the HDV signal as is.
