FCP-Compressor-DVD SP?
on Sep 6, 2010 at 8:15:16 pm

Hello everyone. My question is how do I get that pixelated, blurried with movement look out of my final SD DVD. Im not sure what Im doing wrong but every time that I burn a DVD it looks entirely different from the look in FCP. Im shooting with a HDR-SR8, importing into FCP and exporting quicktime movie into Compress then to DVD SP. It almost looks like a motion blur on everything moving in the picture. thanks

Post the duration of your program, and what settings you're using in Compressor.

My program is approx 55 minutes longs (HS FOOTBALL GAME). My settings in Compressor DVD Best 90 minute, VIDEO FROMAT QUALITY GOP
NTSC Avg BtRt 6.9--Max 8.1 IBBP
29.97 Best 15
16:9

Frame Controls are set to On and that entire tab is default and everything else is default. After exporting from FCP my file size is 48 GB and it looks great, I just want to be able to get a smooth picture out of this and not any of that pixelated look when an object moves. Thanks

That variable data rate setting isn't the best for a program as short as you have. They are there to cram a lot more time on a single sided DVD...

Try this: Apply that same preset, but adjust its settings to be a CBR (constant bit rate) of 7 Mbps.

It should fit just fine on a single sided DVD, and get rid of a ton of the problems you're seeing.

Thanks. I tried that setting and it looks ok in DVDSP but after burning it to DVD, it still gives me that pixelated look and looks crapy. E.g. One school has white jerseys with green numbers and when they are running, it is very difficult to see the number on their jersey because of the blurry pixel look that it gives me. Im using Memorex DVD-R. ANY solutions? Thanks

What are you monitoring on? an HD set perhaps? The way to check this DVD is on an NTSC tube... The rest of the artifact you see may well be the upconversion going on in your system for the monitor...

What the original field order on your source? Did you match it in the encoding process?
