Compressor BD encodes with TC
on Aug 31, 2010 at 6:58:46 pm

Hi,

I'm encoding some HD Quicktimes to AVC for Bluray using Compressor. Does anyone know if Compressor will embed the timecode (that is already embedded in my Quicktimes) into the AVC files? It's really important as I will also need to add subtitles during the authoring in scenarist, that will reference said time code!

Cheers,

Yes...there is a TIMECODE READER filter in the FILTERS section of the Inspector.

Compressor has a built in Generator but not a reader.

I beg to differ. I use it all the time. It reads the timecode of my QT movies. It is called TIMECODE GENERATOR...but that means that it will generate visible code. But it will use the timecode that is embedded in the QT file. Or you can bypass and have it start at 00:00:00:00. But you cannot set a custom time.

Yeah, it is when I send something from FCP timeline to Compressor that I used to get screwy TC readings. But most people don't use send to Compressor or the old Export with Compressor as much as I probably do. My bad.

I have experienced the TC generator before to add BITC to a video stream, but what I'm trying to figure out is if the TC will be embedded into the file code rather than visually?

Compressor adds a VISUAL or BURNED IN timecode option. When you export out of FCP, the timecode is embedded in the file.
