Editing both XDCam and DVCpro HD in same timeline..
on Aug 4, 2010 at 11:27:58 am

Hi there,
I am editing a observational documentary for ITV2 here in London. some of my footage is shot with a Sony EX3 and has been imported via XDcam importer in FCP. Some other ftg is shot with the Panasonic Varicam DVCPROHD @25fps. The DVCpro has gone in at 'pro res 422 HQ', the XDCAM has gone in native XDCAM onto a Graid 2TB drive, firewire 800.

I have three questions;
1. Will the two formats play back ok in the same timeline? (any tips for that work flow much appreciated)
2. will the pro res 422 HQ play back ok from my Iomega 500 mb drive via firewire 800 (and macbook pro 2.66ghz, 4gig ram) should i need to edit a sequence at home?
3. we have just been told about the Nano flash unit for the EX3 (to capture some later footage in true HD) are there any pitfalls of using this Nanoflash device and will it play nicely with the other formats mentioned above?

The main edit machine is a; Model Identifier: iMac9,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz

thanks in advance for any help...
Tim

One tip I will give you. Choose one codec to edit with. DVCPro or PreRes. Not HQ.

Workflow will be smooth.
