For those who have upgraded, Just wondering how you're liking FCP 7 vs 6, Motion 4 vs 3, and DVD Studio Pro 4 vs 3?

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

It's been over a year since FCS 2009 was released. I have been using FCP since version 1 and I can say that the features compared to FCS 2 are very much improved.

If you have not upgraded to an Intel machine, FCS 2009 will not install.

Not to start rumors but they are swarming regarding Mac Pro's. Is it Tuesday yet?

DVDSP hasn't changed since FCS 1. If you're using 2, you're using the same version.

Me thinks DVDSP is dead. It hasn't been updated in 4 years. Look for a whole new product in next studio. I could actually see Apple releasing a "multimedia" type product that does web (think easy html 5/javascript) or output as DVD / Blu-Ray.

Ok, maybe not blu-ray. Apple has gone all flash on blu-ray. Idiots.

Unlike editing, DVD is pretty much a black and white technology which hasn't changed since its conception 20 years ago so there's really not a whole lot that needs to be changed in DVDSP other than some tweaks to some of its workflows. Pre-mastering could be better is one that comes to mind.

...and some new Motion and DVD templates would be dandy, too!

Speed changes. With Ver. 3, you no longer have to worry about the duration of your clip changing in the timeline. This alone is worth the price of the upgrade!

There are plenty of other features, but I use this feature every day, and it's great!

Hmm...didn't notice this change...I think mine still ripples timeline.

Then you're NOT doing it right. This is absolutely the most
helpful change in FCS3.

haha!

Any suggestions on HOW I should be doing it? :)

The workaround I found is to use the speed tool - s s s

That is how I do all my speed changes and it doesn't ripple.

I thought I had tried the menu option of changing speed since the FCS3 upgrade.

Uncheck the ripple sequence check box in the speed dialog.

Blu-ray support would be nice, but that's a whole 'nother thread.

Blu-Ray support is there. Via share and third party software, Toast 9 and 10 and CS 4 and 5. Add the Compress HD card and you can encode h.264 for Blu-Ray in minutes not hours! OK, if you are not doing long form. It's still faster than real time.

Noone even mentioned the send to compressor function. Transcoding a sequence while you edit...not needing to create a bunch of interim files...this is IMHO worth the upgrade.

Color 1.5 . That alone is worth the price of an upgrade.

The close gap bug (where it closes the first gap not the one you're in) is still driving me nuts, but the improvements across the board make it well worth it.
