Pro Res 422 playback with QT Pro
on Jul 12, 2010 at 7:10:12 am

I need to play back a pro res 422HQ 1920 x 1080 90 GB file. Unfortunately, H.264 compression isn't good for this particular footage. There are a lot of options now for relatively inexpensive players that can play H.264 (the Patriot Box, for example) but my understanding is that the player needs to be able to play QT Pro reliably for ProRes. Is that correct?

Does anyone know hardware that can play these files within a budget of $300-400? Could a used macbook pro / mac mini work, and if so, how old could I go that would still be reliable? Thanks!!

Any intel mac with a fast-ish firewire 800 drive would do it with the ProRes codec installed. Put the file on that fast drive...
