Overlay Brightness Quirk
on Jul 10, 2010 at 4:45:08 pm

Hey guys,

I basically have an issue with a project I'm working on. When I have a standard V1 layer and then add an overlay in V2 upwards, the picture brightens for some reason. For example, I have the base layer and then add a transparent graphic, the entire screen brightens slightly but noticeably enough to irritate and spoil the overall look.

Does anyone know why that is and how that could be solved?

The timeline in is H.264 at 720p and 23.98fps.

It's because you've chosen to edit in H.264. Bad idea, not fully supported in FCP at all.

Transcode your footage to ProRes 4:2:2 and all will be fixed. Edit from the pro res files of course.
