Export from HD to SD ProRes
on Jun 29, 2010 at 2:53:16 pm

I made a film in HD (Shot on Sony EX!), 70% B&W, 30% in Color.
The HD ProRes rendered version looks fine, but when we render it out in SD ( in Compressor) to ProRes, theres a lot of flickering and dancing lines.
Any way, how to downgrade it without that heavy damage to the quality.
Help is heavily appreciated - due to a heavy run against the clock!!!!!

What frame rate is your HD?

And in Compressor, did you leave it as a progressive movie?

Did Compressor interpret your 25p movie as p, or did it say it was interlaced? You can find it in the a/v attributes tab when clicking on the thumbnail in compressor.

It interpretated it right, but I just read in other Posts, that it's better to do the downscaling to SD in AE and then put this into Compressor. At the moment, I am rendering the HD Master directly to MPEG2 for DVD in compressor and it seems to be much better.

I think Compressor does a fine job.

Yes, if going to SD DVD, there's no reason to make an SD movie first then go to MPEG2, you can do it one step. Good sleuthing.

Is it right then to go for CBT instead of VBT?
That's what I did, I had to set the Bitrate to Average of 7 Mps, cause the film is 75min.
Does that still produce a reasonable good quality to screen over a Beamer?

CBR vs VBR? It's up to you. If you can fit the movie with CBR, it's fine. VBR will be more efficient (less file size).

You mean a BMW? Sure. ;)
