Find clips not in browser??
on Jun 21, 2010 at 7:24:38 pm

My assistant editor just copied a large number of new clips into my capture scratch but did not color label either the existing clips or the new clips. So now I have over 2000 clips in my capture scatch with no way of telling which ones I have in my fcp browser already and which ones I need to import. Any solutions our there?! I could use reveal in finder but of course you can only do that with one clip at a time, which would take forever. Please help!

highlight all your current clips, make them one color. then drag your whole cap. scratch folder in the browser. sort by name. now anything uncolored with a duplicate name is a clip you already have, delete those.

Yes I guess that would work, the main downside is that all of the media is of course organized into dozens of folders in my browser and trying to take all the clips out of their folders and put them back in would take a lot of time. Does that make sense? If there was some quicker way to do it that would be awesome as I'm stuck with a very limited schedule on this episode.

Sort the clips by date. The newer ones are the ones with the latest date.

And scold that AE something fierce.

Yeah i find it frustrating when I have 6 years experience with FCP and I find it difficult to get a job as AE, but people are making mistakes like that...
