Changing opacity on fade transitions
on Jun 21, 2010 at 11:28:29 am

Hi there,

I am trying to run back-to-back fade-in fade-out transitions, so that shots fade from and back into black. I have no problem doing this. What I do have a problem with is adjusting the fade so that it begins JUST BEFORE the shot, as opposed to running with black for a while. If I change the duration of the fade, this simply means the shot comes too quickly into focus, defeating the object.

So, what I want is to cut the fade, or change its entry opacity value, so as to remove the excess black at the beginning and end.

Many thanks for any help,

Ben

Thanks for this. Sadly I am a relative beginner with FCP, could you briefly explain how, or point me to a tutorial if that's OK? Cheers, Ben

Use the pen tool on the layer itself. Make sure you have clip overlays turned on. (Option W)
