FCP to Quicktime issue
on Jun 18, 2010 at 4:12:16 pm

I have an iMac (sorry that I don't have the specs, as it is my home system and I'm, at work)and the problem that I'm facing is that when I export my FCP to Quicktime, ir doesn't save as a QT Movie file, it saves as an FCP movie file. How do i fix this?

Right click on the file and choose Open With > Quicktime.

They are one and the same, with both carrying the .mov suffix, the only difference being the icon they carry and the fact that those exported as self contained QTs from FCP want to automatically open in FCP on your on your FCP system. Simply right click and tell those files to use QT Player instead if you want to view them. otherwise they work in all other apps exactly the same as any other QT file.

ok. if I want to give the files to someone else in QT format (who doesn't have FCP), how do I change it, or do I need to?

[Tony Fields] "how do I change it"

I think if you reread the posts, you have your answer. The other problem you might have, though, is that the receiver might not have the proper codec. What is the codec of your timeline?

When I "Open with" QT player, it only gives me an audio track.

Because you don't have the codec. Hit command-i to bring up the info while the movie is open in QT.

Hit command-I with Quicktime open, not from the Finder. A little grey dashboard should open and look where it says 'Format'

I know this is going to sound incredible, but the Format is blank...

I'm using FCP 7 and it's as simple as 'File-Export-Quicktime Movie', of course you could always 'Send To-Compressor' if you have that installed.
