How to Convert Kodak zi8 720P 30 and 60FPS footage for FCP 6
on Jun 18, 2010 at 8:00:20 am

Please let me know how to convert the footage from my Kodak zi8 camera, 720P for use in FCP 6.

I have two types of 720P footage: 30FPS and 60FPS.

Do I convert both to H.264 or ProRes?

How do I convert the footage exactly? Do I convert by fixing settings in FCP 6 or do I use the separate Cinema Tools? Help!

Note- I intend to use the footage on the web only.

I last brought in footage and didn't convert prior and had to render every time I moved a clip. I do not want to do this again.

The footage wouldn't play right in Quicktime and it only played well (images would freeze and audio was off, even though the files were .mov to begin with) after being converted to an iPhone .m4v file.

h264 is a delivery codec, not an editing codec. It looks great for playback, because nice playback is its job. You do need to convert it first before successfully editing eith it.

This year, anyway.

Thank you for your quick response. So do I convert the footage to ProRes? Do I need to convert the audio from AAC LC files to something else? Do I use compressor?
