Capturing in FCP 6 Off lining in FCP 4 HD - Audio captured in 6 not showing up in 4

Hi,

This may seem an odd question but, here goes. As a College we have just initiated a new procedure for editing. Students capture and off-line to an ext FW HD, All files are captured as DVCam PAL 48Khz. When the off-line is completed they then copy the files and projects to Editshare to do an online. At the moment we are either going between FCP 4 HD to FCP 6 with no problems. The problem comes when we capture on FCP 6 then import the media into FCP 4 HD (to do the off-line), the clips come in and no audio is recognised. The clips are captured with audio, the audio plays back in QT and in MPEG stream clip. A DVPAL Export from stream clip and re-import restores the audio.

Can anyone think of any reason why the audio disappears when we import of FCP 4 HD?

FCP 4 and earlier did not support muliple (more than 2) audio tracks. Changes in FCP and Quicktime for FCP 5 and up, to allow multiple audio tracks cause this behavior.

Hi,

Thanks, yep that makes sense, I've not really used FCP before V5, so it wasn't something I've dealt with before.
