Cropping 'Dallas opening credits' style
on May 7, 2010 at 8:12:44 pm

I need to create a video in the style of Dallas' opening credits. The part where the cast is introduced. For every cast member there are three images on a row seperated by oblique lines.

http://hub.tv-ark.org.uk/images/soaps/soap_images/american/dallas_1989c.jpg

With the cropping tool it's only possible to get straight lines.
Can someone point me to the tools do I need to use to get the 'Dallas' effect?

Thanks,
Marcus

Garbage Matte. 4 point will work.

Thanks Shane. That does work.

And then I ran into the next thing.
After a few seconds, the images on the left and right need to freeze.
Usually I create a freeze frame, but here the freeze frame has the size of the orginal footage and not of the cropped size.
Is there a way to freeze the cropped image?

Marcus

MAke the freeze frame, and then apply the same garbage matte to it. Copy and then Paste Addributes:Filters, or drag the filter from the Viewer onto the clip.

... Or use a speed change for the freeze frame.
Matt.

Thanks for the help guys.

In my case the easiest solution seems the Garbage Matte 4 point + create a freeze frame and change the speed of that frame to zero.

Yes, What Shane says. Or build a mask in photoshop first, any shapes you need. The use alpha keying and crop controls to wipe stuff in and out or move it from behind using blending modes. I think if you make a mask, changing the other elements may be easier if you have to make a change later.
