Log and Transfer directly to external hard drive?
on Apr 14, 2010 at 7:53:08 am

I just got a canon vixia hfs100. I use the log and transfer feature and found that even when the scratch disk is set to my external harddrive, the log and transfer process always sends my clips to the harddrive on my computer. Whereas the log and capture window offers an option for where to capture the footage to, I can't find a similar option in the log and transfer window. Can anyone tell me how to specify where I want the clips to be transfered to? Preferably, from my SDHC card to an external drive.

Thanks,

Did you set your scratch disk from the user prefs or just when you used log & capture? Are you saying that the log & transfer ignored your prefs settings?

If so have you done the usual maintenance of trashing prefs etc?

(Sorry, not in front of my FCP system. Going from memory)

Set your location in the Log & Capture dialog. There are three tabs to the right. One of them lets you set the location.

I just double checked and set the scratch disk to my external drive by going to Final Cut Pro - System Settings. I also checked the log and capture window and saw that the same scratch disk was listed there. But again, when I did log and transfer, if saves the clips onto my computer hard drive. Is the system settings option what you meant by "user preferences?" If so, maybe I should try trashing the user preferences. I'm not sure how to do that though, can you let me know?

Thanks,

Aaron

Keep looking. You're missing one somewhere.

Log and Transfer puts media on the scratch disk that is specified in System Settings.

[Tom Brooks] Log and Transfer puts media on the scratch disk that is specified in System Settings.

Unless you change it in the Log & Transfer dialog.
