Capturing Without Timecode

Please help!

I filmed an event a few weeks back using miniDV. One of the cameras has 24p and I am finding now that when I play back the tape, there is no timecode....??? I've never encountered this! Also, I realize now that I recorded it in LP, which may have caused the weirdness. Regardless, now I am unable to capture in FCP because there is no timecode and it just searches for timecode endlessly. HELP! I tried using the "Non-Controllable Device" option in the capture settings, but it errors out after only a few seconds, saying there's an issue with the tape...any ideas?

Use DVHSCap. It's like doing a capture now and captures the footage via FW as a m2t file. Then use either Mpeg Streamclip (free) or my favourite Clipwrap to change it into a MOV file. I have never had an error doing this.

OK, so I downloaded these programs and DVHScap is saying that I do not have a DVHS Device connected. I tried changing the order in which I turn on the camera and open the program, but I can't seem to get it to detect my camera. Do you know why this may be?

Are you capturing the footage through a deck or camera? I assumed since it was 24p that it was HDV. Is that correct? If I switch my deck here to DV instead of HDV I get the same message.
I would guess that the LP is the main issue. I haven't had to capture footage in LP but I have heard that there can be lots of dropped frames.
You could try directly copying the LP tape to a SP tape and then capture from that.
I hope that helps :)

Try setting your device control settings to "non-controllable device".
