FCP slow Real Time playback
on Apr 1, 2010 at 3:37:07 pm

I'm new to the video world, and i'm trying to set up my MacPro to do some Edit.
The problem is with the RT Ultimate, i've applied a Filter (neat video noise reduction) to a ProRes 422 1080p clip and I can't playback it with some decent fps.

The MacPro is actually set like this:

-Processor: 2x3.2Ghz Quad-Core
-Main Drive: SSD 256GB
-RAID Striped: 2x150GB 10000rpm
-Video Card: Geforce 8800GT 512MB
-RAM: 12GB

I've put all my videos and the FCP project in the RAID. In the FCP preferences, i've set the scratch disk on the RAID and also the Waveform, Thumbnail and Autosave Caches folders, is that correct? or should I use the SSD drive?

PS: i'll try to substitute the RAID hard drives with 2x256GB SSD, do you think it'll help? or the problem is the video card?

thansk

Did you render? Many filters require rendering before you can play them.

well, with render everything works fine, i0m talking about realt itme without render....
i'm asking this because it take 2-3 minutes to render 10 sec of clip everytime I change something in the filter menu.... it's impossible to work like this.

The clip is highlighted as unlimited in the timelin, not as need to render...

Sorry, you are not going to get realtime without render with that filter. No matter what your settings. The fact it takes as long as it does to render tells me it is a pretty hefty plugin.

You can press Opt-P to play thru slowly to see generally how it looks.

[Filippo Guerra] "...it take 2-3 minutes to render 10 sec of clip everytime I change something in the filter menu.... it's impossible to work like this...."

Then you should never, ever work with After Effects. You will die.

I'd feared this...
I should't never move from photo to video world. :D
